Thriller Research

Today we have looked at different thriller openings on YouTube. We looked at how Alfred Hitchcock presented his films in lighting, sounds and camera angles. We founded that opening scenes of his films  start with credits but he has built a tension atmosphere with the sound and colour contrast. In his film 'Psycho' which is most famous for the scene of the women in the shower getting stabbed and how he has your sound and editing. This film is filmed in black and white , this builds a contrast to the audience as it is dark all the way through the film and also you don’t know when it is night or day?

Preliminary Task

Preliminary Task

Day one and two
in the Preliminary task we were   asked to design a preliminary task , the task involved use to create a short clip of a character opening a door and sitting in a chair opposite the other character and which they have to exchange at least 4 lines of dialogue. This task helped us get used to filming and editing. This task should involve 180 degree rule, shot reverse shot and match on action.

Before creating the video we had to get into groups with people we don't normally work with, this helped us get to know people in our classes and work with new people. I choose to work with Sophie Dainty, Ben Clarke and Jake Frost. I think this group worked well as we got on and also we shared different ideas , normally i wouldnt of choose to work with theses people but i think it worked well and i think it would work well togher if we was to work as a group in the furture.

Pictures of our story board

Before creating our video we had to plan out a story board to help us create our video. We had to plan effetely what we were going to do and allocate roles to each member of the group. We all worked on our strengths and weakness which he had to decide which part of the task each of others will be good at. Ben was good as planning and working with the camera, Jake was good at acting in our video and including ideas. Sophie was good at coming up with ideas to put into the video such as props, costume and dialogue and planning .i took part in planning and mise en scene with Sophie. We asked Louis Pearson to take part in our video as we thought it would be good idea to give her some acting experience in front of the camera, she played the character of the girl spitting up from her boyfriend in the video.

In a group we decide to base our video on a break up. The back story Jake played character the male character Robert who broke up with his girlfriend Eleanor which was played by Louis after a 2 year relationship which ended in her being too clingy they meet at school. We decide to come up with a backstory to help the actors to get into character; this helped the characters feel comforted when we started filming for the video.
Also in our planning we need some research for location, myself and Sophie looked for a suitable location to film the sequence. We shot different locations for our video as we filmed outside and inside the college buildings. In the planning process we came up for appropriate props for our sequence, we didn’t use but we didn’t use all of them. From this i think we will work on more appropriate props for next time.

During the filming process we used different varieties of shots along with the shots we was asked to use and editing descions. For the first screen shot we used an med panning shot also we used an over the shoulder shot of the Roberts reflection in the mirror in the boys toilets at the being of this shot . In the next shot we used an long shot of Robert walking the camera zooms in to show his emotion on his face. The shot then changes to Robert walking in to the building there is a med/long panning shot. The camera focuses on his feet this is because it shows his journey and builds a tension between the audience. Also we used an close up shot of his face to show his emotion . Also we used an shot reverse shot of the two characthers talking  we used this shot because it shows both of the characthers emotion .  The final shot is of Robert leaving the room , leaving the girl left crying  and the shot fades away in a blur.
